Volkswagen Group presents electric urban car family and tech innovations at IAA Mobility

The Volkswagen Group will present a wide range of technological innovations at the IAA Mobility event in Munich from September 7 to 12, 2025. The company aims to demonstrate its progress in making new technologies available to a broad audience, including electric and hybrid drives, range extender concepts, and advancements in automated and autonomous driving supported by artificial intelligence.

During the six-day event at the IAA Summit exhibition stand in hall B1, Volkswagen Group brands will unveil several world premieres and showcase new mobility concepts. The group is also highlighting its use of advanced AI technologies as part of its goal to become a leading technology driver in the automotive industry. The program includes keynotes and panel discussions with figures from business and politics, such as Germany’s Federal Minister of Transport, Patrick Schnieder.

On Sunday, September 7, before the official opening of the IAA, Volkswagen Group will host a media preview featuring the world premiere of the Electric Urban Car Family from Volkswagen brand, CUPRA, and Škoda. This marks the first joint showing of these models. Other brands including Audi, Porsche, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, and Scout will also debut new models.

Monday’s events focus on presenting how “the Electric Urban Car Family shows how we are bringing the full strength of the Group to the market: one platform, four characters, each brand with a clear customer focus: Making E-mobility more accessible then ever. Attractively priced. And profitable at the same time.” According to CEO Oliver Blume and Thomas Schäfer (Volkswagen brand CEO), there will be further announcements during their press conference.

A second press conference on Monday highlights sustainable mobility “Made in Europe,” with PowerCo and Elli demonstrating new battery technologies for future vehicles.

Design strategy takes center stage later that day with CEO Oliver Blume and Head of Design Michael Mauer discussing design as a success factor for Volkswagen Group brands. Attendees can interview design managers Andras Mindt (Volkswagen Passenger Cars), Chris Benjamin (Scout), and Michael Mauer (Porsche).

Tuesday features discussions on artificial intelligence’s role in automotive development. A panel including Hauke Stars; Professor Dr Luise Hölscher; Dr Ferri Abolhassan; and Aljoscha Burchardt will examine how Germany can lead Europe’s AI future. “With its increased use of artificial intelligence, the Volkswagen Group is igniting the next stage on its path to becoming a global technology driver in the automotive industry,” according to organizers.

Also on Tuesday afternoon, MOIA CEO Sascha Meyer joins Oliver Blume and Christian Senger (Volkswagen Autonomous Mobility) alongside Federal Minister Patrick Schnieder for a discussion about autonomous driving opportunities for Germany’s industry.

Wednesday focuses on e-mobility innovation topics under “WE POWER E-MOBILITY FOR ALL.” Presentations include updates from Thomas Schmall (Group Board Member for Technology), Frank Blome (PowerCo CEO), Giovanni Palazzo (Elli CEO), followed by technical talks covering engineering platforms for e-mobility, battery evolution, and smart energy solutions.

Thursday centers on software development with CARIAD hosting an Auto x Software Conference under “Putting people first with automotive software.” Speakers include Oliver Blume; Peter Bosch (CARIAD CEO); Cristiano Amon (Qualcomm); Hildegard Müller (VDA President); Kai Yu (Horizon Robotics); Florence Verzelen (Dassault Systèmes). Discussions address software strategies related to customer experience and vehicle development using modular technology stacks and AI-based systems.

Friday concludes with presentations about urban transformation through autonomous mobility solutions involving MOIA. Industry leaders such as Jan-Christian Dreesen (FC Bayern Munich), Jürgen Muth (Allianz Arena München Stadion GmbH), and Hauke Stars discuss AI-driven mobility concepts aiding stadium access during football matches. Former German national player Stefan Effenberg holds an autograph session afterward.

Students from Technical University of Munich are invited Friday afternoon to participate in a Tech Challenge focused on mobility concepts.

Brand-specific highlights at IAA Mobility include Porsche unveiling its latest 911 model downtown along with home charging innovations; Audi presenting a concept car reflecting future design direction—by end-2025 Audi plans 20 new model launches—and showcasing its Q3 Sportback e-hybrid SUV-coupé hybrid capable of up to 118 kilometers electric range; Volkswagen displaying four new models including ID.2all compact SUV previewing additions to its ID family; CUPRA introducing Raval as part of Electric Urban Car Family plus premiering Tindaya showcar representing future design language; Škoda revealing Epiq city SUV crossover showcar along with Vision O concept estate car study evolving Modern Solid design language; MOIA offering test drives demonstrating turnkey solutions for autonomous on-demand mobility services using ID.Buzz AD vehicles integrated into their service ecosystem.
