Vietjet, Vietnam’s largest private airline, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Airbus for the purchase of 100 A321neo aircraft. This agreement was formalized at the Paris Air Show by Vietjet CEO Dinh Viet Phuong and Airbus EVP Sales Benoît de Saint-Exupéry.
Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao remarked, “This new agreement marks a significant milestone in our strategic partnership with Airbus.” She emphasized that these aircraft have played a crucial role in Vietjet’s growth by making air travel more accessible and affordable. Thao added, “This landmark agreement represents a vital step in Vietjet’s growth strategy as a multi-national aviation group.”
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry commented on the timing of the agreement: “Our latest agreement comes just weeks after the airline placed an additional order for A330neo widebody aircraft.” He noted that both aircraft models will help Vietjet efficiently match capacity to demand across its network while benefiting from technical commonality unique to Airbus’ latest generation aircraft.
Vietjet operates over 100 Airbus planes and is expanding its global network and modernizing its fleet. The A321neo is known for offering range and performance advantages due to new engines and Sharklets, resulting in noise reduction and fuel savings. By May 2025, over 7,000 A321neo units had been ordered globally.
The A321neo can operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with plans to increase this capability to 100% by 2030.
