TotalEnergies, in collaboration with QatarEnergy, has secured the Ahara license as part of the “Algeria Bid Round 2024.” This bid round was initiated by The National Agency for the Valorization of Hydrocarbon Resources (ALNAFT) and is the first under Algeria’s hydrocarbon law No.19-13.
The Ahara license spans approximately 14,900 km² and is situated at the intersection of the Berkine and Illizi Basins. TotalEnergies will act as the operator during both the Exploration and Appraisal phases, holding a 24.5% effective interest. QatarEnergy also holds a 24.5% share, while SONATRACH retains a majority interest of 51%, as mandated by Algerian law.
Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies, stated: “TotalEnergies is delighted that its joint bid with QatarEnergy has led to the award of the Ahara license, allowing us to write a new chapter in our long-lasting partnership with SONATRACH in Exploration in Algeria.”
