TotalEnergies has entered into a 15-year agreement with Quatra, a European leader in the collection and recycling of used cooking oil. The deal, set to commence in 2026, will supply TotalEnergies’ biorefineries with 60,000 tons annually of used cooking oil from Europe. This agreement aims to secure feedstock for producing biodiesel and sustainable aviation fuel (SAF).
Quatra will collect used cooking oil from restaurants and industries across France and Europe. After collection, the oil will be filtered at Quatra sites before being sent to TotalEnergies’ biorefineries for conversion into biofuels. TotalEnergies has converted its refineries at La Mède in southern France and Grandpuits near Paris into biorefineries.
The La Mède facility, operational since 2019, can produce 500,000 tons of biofuel per year and is the sole producer of HVO biodiesel in France. This year, it will also begin producing SAF for airports in southern France. The Grandpuits site is being transformed into a zero-crude complex with a planned annual production capacity of 230,000 tons of SAF by 2026. TotalEnergies collaborates with SARIA for feedstock supply at this location.
Valérie Goff, Senior Vice President of Renewable Fuels & Chemicals at TotalEnergies said: “I am delighted with this strategic agreement with Quatra that contributes to our aim to secure the feedstock we need to produce biofuels in our biorefineries.”
Pol Van Pollaert, Co-CEO of Quatra stated: “At Quatra, we believe in long-term partnerships with leading industrial groups that combine logistics, environmental responsibility and financial viability.”
