TotalEnergies has announced the acquisition of a 25% interest in Block 53, offshore Suriname. The interest was previously held by Moeve, formerly known as CEPSA. TotalEnergies will join APA, which holds a 45% stake and operates the block, and Petronas with a 30% stake.
Block 53 is located east of Block 58, where TotalEnergies is already involved with a 40% stake as an operator. The block contains the Baja-1 discovery near the border of Block 58.
Javier Rielo, Senior Vice President Americas for Exploration & Production at TotalEnergies, stated: “This acquisition brings new resources to the development of our low-cost and low-emission GranMorgu project. It also proves how TotalEnergies will leverage GranMorgu infrastructure to develop profitably additional resources and extend its production plateau, strengthening the position of the Company in the offshore of Suriname.”
