Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS), part of the Lufthansa Group, has received its first Airbus A350-900. The delivery marks the beginning of a fleet modernization program for SWISS, with plans to introduce a total of ten A350-900 aircraft. The new aircraft will serve long-haul routes from Zurich, including flights to Boston.
The A350-900 is the first in the SWISS long-haul fleet to feature the SWISS Senses cabin. This new cabin design aims to offer passengers a more comfortable and personalized travel experience across all seating classes. The aircraft features a four-class configuration: First Class suites that can seat up to four people each, 45 Business Class seats, 38 Premium Economy seats, and 156 Economy seats.
According to Airbus, “The A350 is the world’s most modern widebody aircraft and has set new standards for intercontinental travel. The A350’s all-new design includes state-of-the-art technologies and aerodynamics delivering unmatched standards of efficiency and comfort. Its new generation engines and use of lightweight materials bring a 25 per cent advantage in fuel burn, operating costs and carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions, compared to previous generation competitor aircraft. The A350-900 is equipped with a comfortable and spacious Airspace cabin, wide seats, high ceilings and alluring ambient lighting.”
Airbus also stated that all its A350 aircraft can operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The company aims for its entire fleet to be capable of using up to 100% SAF by 2030.
As of September 2025, Airbus had received over 1,400 orders for the A350 from 63 customers worldwide.
