Siemens Smart Infrastructure has collaborated with San Juan de Dios Hospital in Seville, Spain, to upgrade the hospital’s facilities using digital and AI-powered technology. The hospital, which has been operating for more than 450 years, now uses Siemens’ Building X platform to integrate energy management, security systems, and HVAC automation into one unified system.

According to Siemens, this integration has led to significant improvements in both operational and energy efficiency. The company expects its technology will help the hospital achieve an additional 10 percent reduction in operating costs by enabling early fault detection and optimizing equipment usage.

“With Siemens’ technology, we have gone beyond simple automation. We now have an intelligent system that coordinates, optimizes, and anticipates the functioning of our facilities, improving care quality and the well-being of those around us,” said María Jesús Pareja, Managing Director at San Juan de Dios Hospital.

Building X combines AI-based applications that bring together different building management functions. It is part of Siemens Xcelerator, a digital business platform designed to support organizations as they transition toward greater digitalization.

“This project sets another benchmark for hospital digitalization globally. By harnessing AI and interoperable platforms, healthcare facilities can transform operational complexity into simplicity and resilience – ultimately improving care outcomes while cutting costs,” said Delphine Clément, Global Head of Verticals at Siemens Smart Infrastructure Buildings.

At San Juan de Dios Hospital, Siemens implemented a digital layer that includes remote services for fault detection and diagnostics. Security is managed through intrusion detection provided by Siemens’ Siveillance Suite alongside the Desigo CC building management system. These tools offer real-time insights into building performance and energy use via Operations Manager and Energy Manager modules within Building X. This allows managers to make informed decisions that enhance operational efficiency and sustainability outcomes.
