Reinhard Altenhöner, Deputy General Director at Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin, said, “Siemens’ holisticapproach, deep expertise, and innovative financing model make it a perfectmatch to help us – and the national program – to achieve substantial energy savingsand sustainability improvements, while still maintaining the optimal conditionsrequired to safeguard our priceless cultural heritage through continuousmonitoring.”

Since 2007, Siemens has worked with seven of Berlin’s cultural institutions on similar projects. These efforts have resulted in nearly €25 million in gross energy savings and an annual reduction of about 3,745 tons of CO₂ emissions. With the recent implementation at the Berlin State Library—now the eighth facility involved—the total collaboration has reached approximately €45 million in gross energy savings and a yearly elimination of around 11,745 tons of CO₂ emissions. Siemens continues to provide ongoing energy monitoring and data-based advisory services for all eight buildings.
