Siemens and Microsoft have announced a collaboration aimed at enhancing the interoperability of Internet of Things (IoT) solutions for building management. The integration between Siemens’ Building X platform and Microsoft’s Azure IoT Operations is expected to reduce integration efforts by up to 80 percent, leading to more efficient building operations and improved sustainability.

“This collaboration with Microsoft reflects our shared vision of enabling customers to harness the full potential of IoT through open standards and interoperability,” stated Susanne Seitz, CEO of Siemens Smart Infrastructure Buildings. She emphasized that the enhanced data access will offer portfolio managers detailed insights into key metrics like energy efficiency and consumption. “With IoT data often being siloed, this level of transparency is a game-changer for an industry seeking to optimize building operations and meet sustainability targets.”

Erich Barnstedt, Senior Director & Architect at Microsoft’s Corporate Standards Group, echoed these sentiments. “Siemens shares Microsoft’s focus on interoperability and open IoT standards. This collaboration is a significant step forward in making IoT data more actionable,” he said. Barnstedt highlighted Microsoft’s strategy to partner with industry leaders to provide customers with greater choice and control over their IoT solutions.

The new interoperable solution will be available in the market from the second half of 2025. Building X, part of Siemens Xcelerator, is designed to help customers digitalize, manage, and optimize their building operations towards sustainable and autonomous assets.
