Siemens Mobility has announced that its Vectron locomotives have received authorization for passenger service at speeds of up to 230 kilometers per hour. The locomotives are equipped with the European Train Control System (ETCS) Baseline 3.6 and use Siemens Mobility’s Trainguard 200 ETCS on-board unit. They also include national train protection systems required for operation in each authorized country.

The company stated, “Thanks to the Vectron’s modular platform approach, the speed range could be expanded with minimal effort. The most significant technical change is an adjustment to the gear ratio.”

To date, Siemens Mobility has sold more than 2,800 Vectron locomotives to over 110 customers. The fleet has accumulated approximately 1.3 billion kilometers in service and has been approved for operation in 20 European countries.
