Siemens Mobility and SBS Transit have agreed to extend their Long-Term Service Support (LTSS) contract for the signaling system of Singapore’s Downtown Line (DTL). The new agreement will last 22 years, from January 1, 2026, to December 31, 2047. It includes measures for managing equipment obsolescence, technology updates, and security improvements. The DTL is a fully automated metro line that covers about 44 kilometers with 37 stations.

Elmar Zeiler, CEO of Siemens Mobility Customer Services, stated: “We are very pleased to expand our partnership with SBS Transit. By combining lifecycle services with proactive obsolescence management, targeted technology refresh and security upgrades, we ensure that the signaling system remains technically up to date, highly available and fully integrated into the existing infrastructure over more than two decades.”

The latest contract builds on an earlier LTSS agreement made in May 2024. That arrangement focused on providing spare parts support, technical assistance, and monitoring for obsolete components. Together, these agreements allow Siemens Mobility—as the original manufacturer of the DTL signaling system—to manage its lifecycle services through 2047.

A key part of the new contract is shifting from reactive to proactive management of outdated equipment. Siemens Mobility will identify current and potential future issues in advance and address them through planned redesigns or replacements at both subsystem and component levels. The company will monitor component lifecycles continuously and adjust spare parts inventories as needed to prevent disruptions.

In addition to maintaining hardware reliability, Siemens Mobility will also provide ongoing system updates throughout the contract period to meet changing security requirements. This includes reviewing performance regularly so that any new or updated hardware or software can be integrated without affecting existing operations.

By focusing on proactive maintenance and regular upgrades over more than two decades, both companies aim to ensure safe and reliable service for commuters using Singapore’s Downtown Line.
