Siemens has announced the start of its 2025 training year, emphasizing a shift toward digital and future-oriented professional education. The company is integrating advanced learning platforms and immersive technologies such as virtual and augmented reality into its training programs. Siemens is also focusing on topics like artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, the internet of things (IoT), cybersecurity, and the circular economy throughout its educational initiatives.
The importance of generative AI is growing within Siemens’ training approach. The company aims to teach AI as an interdisciplinary subject, enabling trainees to use AI tools efficiently, securely, and responsibly.
“To keep pace with today’s rapid technological transformation, education has to become more and more a dynamic, future-oriented ecosystem in which learners, teachers, educational institutions and other relevant organizations successfully network and exchange ideas,” said Bettina Weckesser, head of training at Siemens worldwide. “That’s why we’re fostering learning in the ecosystem, digital expertise, the responsible utilization of AI and life-long, self-determined learning,” she added.
Siemens’ training philosophy highlights individual support from educators and teamwork among trainees. The company considers future-oriented skills essential as knowledge quickly becomes outdated in the age of AI. To address this challenge, Siemens offers targeted programs that promote resilience, entrepreneurial thinking, openness to technology, teamwork skills, and value orientation. Its Xplore concept supports democratic values and social competencies through projects such as social media competitions.
The company has also introduced digital agreements for new trainees using e-signatures. This move aims to increase efficiency by allowing faster signing regardless of location while contributing to sustainability efforts by reducing paper use.
In addition to these measures for current trainees, Siemens is working on early career orientation through its SIEYA@School initiative. This program uses gamification techniques and interactive materials via a web app called SIEYA – Siemens Your Adventure – which currently engages over 21,000 young people in technology-related activities across Germany. The initiative brings science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education directly into classrooms with resources aligned with school curricula.
Currently about 4,200 apprentices and university students are participating in work-study programs at Siemens locations in Germany. For the present training year there are approximately 900 traineeships at Siemens AG itself; 280 at Siemens Mobility GmbH; 200 at Siemens Healthineers AG; plus an additional 320 positions for external partners under collaborative arrangements. In fiscal year 2024 Siemens invested roughly €442 million globally in employee training and development.
