Siemens has entered into a data-sharing alliance with machine builders aimed at advancing the use of artificial intelligence in industrial manufacturing. The agreement centers on exchanging anonymized machine data, which will be used to develop and train AI models designed for industrial applications.

“Access to high-quality machine data from different manufacturers is the key,” Busch explains. “With this alliance, we can develop AI systems that reflect the complexity entailed in development and manufacturing, and so it will become a powerful partner for skilled workers.”

The shared data is expected to support several functions, such as the automated creation of NC programs—digital work instructions for specialized manufacturing equipment. Additional uses include predictive maintenance that offers more accurate forecasts specific to each machine, real-time adaptive manufacturing processes that respond to changing conditions, and improvements in energy efficiency through intelligent control of machine parameters.

According to Siemens, all data exchange will comply strictly with existing data protection and security standards. The alliance plans to expand its membership beyond the current participants and aims to extend industrial artificial intelligence benefits across other sectors outside of machine tool manufacturing.
