Ludwig Fazel has been appointed as the new Head of Group Strategy, Group Product Strategy, and the General Secretariat at Volkswagen Group. He will begin his role on December 1, 2025, reporting directly to CEO Oliver Blume. Fazel replaces Stefan Weckbach, who is leaving the company by his own decision.
CEO Oliver Blume expressed gratitude for Weckbach’s contributions: “We would like to thank Stefan Weckbach for his strong commitment over the past years. With his expertise, he has driven key future projects such as Scout and our joint venture with Rivian and played a decisive role in positioning Volkswagen as the Global Automotive Tech Driver. I am pleased that Ludwig Fazel, an experienced strategist, will take over this important role. He has repeatedly demonstrated that he is able to successfully advance a core area of our company in challenging environments — both operationally and strategically. I am confident that we will successfully tackle the tasks ahead together.”
Fazel holds degrees in Management and Technology from the Technical University of Munich and Nanyang Business School in Singapore. Before joining Volkswagen, he worked as a strategy consultant at Roland Berger between 2008 and 2017. Within Volkswagen Group, Fazel has overseen the global production network for components, managing about 65,000 employees worldwide. He also led strategic planning for Volkswagen Group Technology, which includes responsibilities for batteries and charging infrastructure as well as energy business areas. Additionally, Fazel was involved in establishing sales of platforms and components to external partners such as Ford and Mahindra.
Stefan Weckbach began his career after earning a doctorate from the University of St. Gallen and initially worked at a management consultancy before joining Porsche in 2008. At Porsche, he held roles in corporate strategy and product line management before becoming Head of Group Strategy at Volkswagen AG in September 2023.
Fazel’s recent experience includes leading both operational activities and strategic initiatives within Volkswagen’s technology divisions.
