Carlo Messina, CEO of Intesa Sanpaolo, has been named “Best Chief Executive Officer” in European banking for the eighth time in the 2025 Extel ranking. This accolade follows his recent recognition as “European Banker of the Year 2024” by The Group of 20+1, a Frankfurt-based association of financial journalists.
The Extel ranking is determined by votes from institutional investors and financial analysts. In addition to Messina’s achievement, Intesa Sanpaolo has been recognized as Europe’s top bank for investor relations and ESG performance. The bank’s Board of Directors was also acknowledged as the Best Company Board in European banking for the fourth consecutive year.
Luca Bocca, who became Chief Financial Officer in April 2024, was voted Best CFO. Marco Delfrate was recognized as Best Investor Relations Professional for the eighth consecutive year. Under the leadership of Delfrate and Andrea Tamagnini, Intesa Sanpaolo’s Investor Relations team was ranked best in European banking once again.
Intesa Sanpaolo has maintained its position at the forefront of ESG programs among European banks for six years running. This reflects their strategy and commitment to innovation, social impact, and sustainability.
The rankings are based on a survey conducted by Extel involving approximately 1,750 institutional investors and financial analysts. Extel is known for its independent research over more than five decades.
Carlo Messina commented on these achievements: “The continued recognition of Intesa Sanpaolo’s leadership in Europe is a source of immense satisfaction and pride. This is above all thanks to our clear and successful strategy, our solidity and profitability that allow us to succeed in any scenario… We believe that transparency and responsible communications are vital to our ongoing engagement with all our stakeholders.”
