Ignitis Renewables, an international green energy company, is continuing its financial support for communities near wind and solar farms in development or operation. This year, the company plans to allocate over EUR 420 thousand to these communities. Over the past four years, Ignitis Renewables has provided EUR 2.5 million in financial support to communities in Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland. The aim is to strengthen local initiatives and foster a sustainable environment.

“We develop renewable energy projects to strengthen the energy system and form a competitive price zone in the region. We also strive to bring tangible benefits to the communities located near our operations,” said Darius Maikštėnas, CEO of Ignitis Group.

The initiative invites communities from Kelmė, Kretinga, Jurbarkas, and Tauragė districts—areas where Ignitis is developing or has implemented projects—to apply for funding. Legal entities with at least one year of operation can apply for support focusing on energy efficiency, renewables development, environmental protection, and climate change mitigation.

Applications will be accepted via email with details available on the company’s website soon. Communities are encouraged to start preparing their ideas.

Since its inception in 2022, community involvement in the programme has grown annually. Financial support increased from EUR 86 thousand in 2022 to over EUR 561 thousand in 2024. This year’s allocation will bring total support in Lithuania close to EUR 1.3 million.

Projects funded include a dome for outdoor activities at Vydmantai Gymnasium and renovations by Butkiškės Community Association. Emilija Musteikytė from Ignitis Renewables noted that financial support encourages people to undertake ambitious projects.

In Poland and Latvia, significant funding has been granted as well: around EUR 395 thousand in Poland and EUR 270 thousand in Latvia last year alone.

“When communities are given the opportunity to implement their ideas…such initiatives set an example for others,” added Musteikytė.
