Ignitis Renewables has announced that the first stage of its Stelpe solar farm in Latvia has reached commercial operation. The plant, located in Bauska municipality in southern Latvia, covers 85 hectares and is equipped with 121,000 solar panels. Its total installed capacity is 72.5 megawatts (MW).
Baiba Lāce, Head of Ignitis Renewables in Latvia, stated: “This project symbolizes our strong commitment to creating a green and secure energy ecosystem in Latvia and the entire region. This solar farm will help supply thousands of households with clean electricity, while also promoting local economic growth and strengthening community partnerships.”
The investment for the first phase of Stelpe solar farm I, including acquisition and construction costs, is expected to reach up to EUR 50 million. The facility will operate under market conditions, contributing renewable energy to the local supply.
Stelpe solar project consists of two sites with identical capacities of 72.5 MW each. It is one of three large-scale solar farms being developed by Ignitis Renewables in Latvia. The other projects include the Vārme solar farm (94 MW), which recently started operations, and the Tume solar farm project (174 MW), which remains under development. Combined, these three power plants will have an installed capacity exceeding 400 MW and are expected to provide renewable electricity for nearly 200,000 households annually.
Ignitis Renewables reports ongoing cooperation with local communities and municipalities during its projects’ development stages. The company implements financial support initiatives and maintains high environmental standards as part of its broader strategy to build a more reliable and sustainable energy system across the Baltic region.
