Ignitis Group has announced it will provide financial support to 46 community projects across Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland this year. The company received a record 74 applications for its community project funding programme, the highest number since the initiative began in 2022. This increase in participation reflects growing engagement among communities located near Ignitis Group’s wind and solar farms, as well as other company sites.
“The record number of applications shows that communities have become more active in initiating projects that have a tangible impact on locals. We notice a clear trend of growing interest in the initiatives that improve people’s daily lives and strengthen social relations in rural areas. The financial support we grant will give communities more opportunities to implement changes and continue the activities that are important to the locals. We will continue our efforts to be a reliable partner of such initiatives,” said Darius Maikštėnas, CEO of Ignitis Group.
The funded projects cover various topics including infrastructure renovation, environmental cleanups, social programmes, educational activities, and cultural events. According to Ignitis Group, only those proposals that best meet the programme’s priorities and receive high evaluation scores are selected for funding. By the end of 2025, over EUR 1 million is expected to be allocated to communities in Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland.
Community involvement has increased steadily across all countries where Ignitis Renewables operates. Over four years, partnerships between Ignitis Renewables and local groups have led to completion of 100 projects focused on public spaces and social initiatives.
In Lithuania alone, 25 initiatives near wind farms developed by Ignitis Renewables will receive a total of EUR 564,000. These funds will benefit districts such as Kelmė, Mažeikiai, Tauragė, Jurbarkas, and Kretinga through both regular community programme funding and allocations via a generation levy model.
The supported Lithuanian projects address needs ranging from facility upgrades to energy efficiency solutions and social inclusion efforts. Communities aim to renovate facilities for events or sports activities while also encouraging cultural life and physical activity.
Latvia saw an increase in participation with 17 applications this year compared to eight last year; nine projects were selected for EUR 225,000 in funding. Supported Latvian initiatives include mobile youth centres for remote areas, senior swimming sessions, interactive educational benches at historic sites, and solar energy installations in public spaces.
Poland submitted 29 applications; ten were chosen for EUR 200,000 in grants aimed at modernising playgrounds, installing photovoltaic panels on buildings used by people with disabilities or supporting animal welfare programmes.
Other subsidiaries within Ignitis Group plan additional financial backing this year: Four out of eight proposed projects near Elektrėnai Complex will share EUR 100,000 for education- or energy-related improvements—all first-time applicants. Two top-rated proposals near Kaunas Combined Heat and Power Plant will each receive part of another EUR 100,000 allocation aimed at practical skills development or fostering safe environments.
Financial assistance is awarded based on established criteria considering long-term benefits for local communities. Funds are set for distribution after agreements are signed by year-end. Ignitis Group stated it intends to maintain its commitment toward sustainable development in rural regions where it operates.
