Endurance racing spotlight: Nürburgring hosts Intercontinental GT Challenge second round

Following the renowned 24 Hours of Le Mans, attention shifts to another major endurance race: the 24 Hours of Nürburgring. This event marks the second round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge. The Nürburgring circuit will feature Realize Kondo Racing with Rinaldi’s 296 GT3 on track, driven by Ferrari’s official driver Thomas Neubauer, among others, starting from second on the grid.

In Italy, Monza hosts the Italian Gran Turismo Championship and GT Cup with fifteen Ferrari cars participating across both series. Meanwhile, Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium will be the venue for the fourth round of the British GT.

The Nürburgring race features 136 cars across 21 classes on a 25.378-kilometer circuit combining Nordschleife and GP-Strecke. The number 45 car will compete in SP9 class with drivers David Perel, Axcil Jeffries, Felipe Fernandez Laser, and Thomas Neubauer. Qualifying saw challenging weather conditions but resulted in an eighth-place best result for Realize Kondo Racing with Rinaldi’s car.

The Italian Gran Turismo Championship continues at Monza after its opening at Mugello. Maranello-based AF Corse enters four 296 GT3s. Simon Mann joins Edoardo Borelli and Christoph Ulrich in Am class after his second place at Le Mans. Jason Ambrose teams up with David McDonald and Francesco Castellacci in another entry as they lead the GT3 Am standings. Pro Am competitors include Lorenzo Ferrari, Mahaaver Raghunathan, Riccardo Ponzio in one car and Leonardo Colavita, Ibrahim Badawi, David Vidales in another.

Eight Ferraris participate in GT Cup races for single-marque series cars including Stefano Gai and Fabrizio Fontana leading Division Pro Am standings after Misano.

The British GT heads to Spa-Francorchamps for a three-hour race featuring mandatory changes capped at 65 minutes each stint. Spirit of Race SA’s number 55 Ferrari includes Duncan Cameron and Matt Griffin who placed seventh and ninth recently at Oulton Park.

Events include free practice sessions followed by qualifying rounds leading into races scheduled over June 21-22 weekend.
