EDP’s Energy Starter program is now open for applications for its second module of the 9th edition, focusing on renewable energy. The initiative connects EDP decision-makers with startups and scaleups to foster long-term collaborations in the energy sector.

The program seeks innovative solutions that accelerate renewable energy deployment, enhance portfolio performance, and integrate storage while maximizing market participation. Startups worldwide can apply until August 22 through the program’s website.

“At EDP, we believe that true innovation happens through collaboration. Energy Starter is more than a program – it’s a launchpad for co-creating impactful solutions with startups from around the world. By combining their agility and creativity with our global scale and expertise, we aim to accelerate the adoption of technologies that will shape the future of energy,” says Tomás Moreno, Head of EDP’s innovation ecosystem.

The Renewable Energy track for 2025 focuses on topics such as reduction strategies, deployment optimization, operational efficiency, emerging technologies, energy storage innovations beyond lithium-ion solutions, and enhanced short-term energy trading.

After applications close, startups will be evaluated in September and October via online meetings with EDP. Selected participants will advance to a bootcamp from November 25 to 27 at EDP’s headquarters in Lisbon. This phase aims to accelerate pilot project development and commercial agreements.

Post-bootcamp, chosen startups will collaborate with EDP teams to refine their projects. These initiatives will receive full funding from EDP along with access to data and assets to ensure alignment with company needs.

EDP has established itself as a global leader in renewable energy across multiple continents. The company has generated significant results through its open innovation programs: over 150 pilot projects, 40 commercial implementations, 30 venture capital investments, and approximately 140 million euros in business.
