EDP has announced the return of its Entama entrepreneurship program to Portugal, focusing this time on the Douro region. The initiative, which first launched in Portugal in May 2025, aims to support entrepreneurs and strengthen local communities by offering funding of up to €20,000 per project. Applications for the program are open until November 25.
The current edition continues EDP’s efforts from earlier this year in the Minho and Trás-os-Montes regions. Entama is named after an Asturian word meaning “to start something.” The program was originally created by EDP in Spain, where it is now entering its seventh edition while running simultaneously in Portugal.
According to EDP, “The initiative seeks to stimulate the local economy, encourage job creation, promote equal opportunities, and contribute to population retention in low-density areas.” The focus remains on projects that have a positive impact through sustainable tourism, innovation, inclusion, use of local resources, and supporting the energy transition.
Selected entrepreneurs may receive up to €20,000 each. In addition to financial backing, participants gain access to an online platform where they can submit proposals and connect with other business owners—referred to as “entamadores” in Spain—to foster collaboration and innovation.
EDP reports that since its inception the Entama program has supported 73 projects across regions such as Asturias, Cádiz, and Gerês. More than €740,000 has been invested so far into initiatives including sustainable tourism development and waste management solutions.
Applications for this round are available through the EDP website.
