EDP and Schneider Electric have introduced the EDGE Transition initiative during the World Economic Forum’s 56th Annual Meeting in Davos. The announcement was made by EDP CEO Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade and Executive Board Member Pedro Vasconcelos.
EDGE Transition is a global social innovation program that aims to support entrepreneurs working toward a just, inclusive, and sustainable energy transition. The initiative focuses on providing access to clean and affordable energy, improving energy efficiency, offering training and job creation in the energy sector, and supporting environmental preservation. Its primary objective is to create positive social impact, especially in disadvantaged markets and communities.
The program is currently seeking three additional sponsors to expand its global influence. Sponsors will commit financially for three years and may participate through direct investment, joint projects, or by integrating new solutions into their business operations.
EDGE Transition seeks to connect social entrepreneurs with leading companies in the energy sector, investors, and strategic partners. It offers mechanisms such as incubation, acceleration programs, specialized mentoring, technical validation, and business development support to help entrepreneurs scale their solutions and attract investment.
The initiative aligns with EDP’s Y.E.S. – You Empower Society strategy. This strategy plans for annual investments of about €30 million until 2030 to back over 500 social responsibility projects worldwide. One such project is Entama, which supports local economies and promotes equal opportunities in less populated areas of Portugal and Spain.
According to EDP, “The presentation of EDGE Transition at this global forum underscores the ambition of EDP and Schneider Electric to actively contribute to the international debate on the future of energy and the role of social innovation in building a just, inclusive, and sustainable energy transition on a global scale.”
