EDP and CTT—Correios de Portugal have announced an expansion of their strategic partnership, integrating approximately 200 CTT stores and distribution centers as neighbors in EDP Solar Neighborhoods. This initiative aims to broaden access to clean energy and further the energy transition for both companies, allowing more CTT facilities to use renewable energy even if they cannot install solar panels themselves.

By joining the Solar Neighborhoods, these CTT locations will benefit economically and environmentally by participating in a network where local EDP partner companies generate solar power. Many of these partners are small and medium-sized enterprises with the capacity to install solar panels. According to the two companies, this approach strengthens their commitment to national decarbonization efforts.

The agreement builds on a partnership established in 2022 that has already resulted in over 20 solar plants being installed at CTT sites throughout Portugal. These plants are designed to share benefits with nearby communities and could impact more than four thousand families and small businesses.

With this new phase, CTT will serve as both producers and neighbors within EDP Solar Neighborhoods. The model allows citizens or companies—regardless of location or investment ability—to participate in and benefit from solar energy.

EDP states that producers within its Solar Neighborhoods can save up to 60% on self-consumed energy costs, while neighbors may see about a 30% reduction in their monthly energy expenses.

The collaboration between EDP, recognized for its role in the energy transition, and CTT, which operates one of Portugal’s largest logistics networks, highlights how partnerships among major companies can help accelerate decarbonization nationally. The two firms have also agreed on installing what they describe as the country’s largest private electric mobility network. In its first phase, over 580 charging points were set up at more than 100 CTT locations across Portugal; this year, an additional 200 charging points were added. The charging infrastructure supports a fleet of over 1,100 electric and hybrid vehicles powered by green energy supplied by EDP.

CTT’s sustainability strategy includes a target to reduce total carbon emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to 2021 levels through measures such as improved energy efficiency, fleet electrification, and increased use of renewable energies. For EDP, expanding the Solar Neighborhoods aligns with its goal of making communities central to the country’s energy transition.
