Deutsche Telekom has announced a significant expansion of its T Cloud Public platform, aiming to provide a sovereign European alternative to major US cloud providers. By the end of 2026, T Cloud Public is expected to reach full parity in core features with leading hyperscalers such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud Platform.
Currently, T Cloud Public offers about 80 percent of the core functionality found in top cloud platforms. The company plans to achieve complete feature parity by the end of 2026. The platform is designed to support customers’ sovereignty needs by offering automated migration tools and professional services.
Dr. Ferri Abolhassan, CEO of T-Systems and member of Deutsche Telekom AG’s Board of Management, stated: “We are ending the era of either-or decisions. Until now, companies had to choose between maximum functionality from overseas or European sovereignty. With T Cloud Public, we now deliver the best of both worlds. We are not just building a sovereign cloud; we are building the digital foundation for a competitive and free Europe.”
Deutsche Telekom positions itself as one of the few European providers operating at a technological level comparable to global competitors. According to Information Services Group (ISG), T Cloud Public not only surpasses other European alternatives but is also more competitive than some offerings from large technology firms.
T Cloud Public can be integrated with Deutsche Telekom’s Industrial AI Cloud, which will officially launch on February 4. This addition will increase available GPU capacity in Germany by 50 percent and establish what Deutsche Telekom calls Europe’s largest sovereign AI infrastructure.
The platform provides companies with an accessible toolkit for modern IT infrastructure needs, including compute power, storage solutions, managed databases, and developer tools. Customers have direct access to GPU resources through integration with Industrial AI Cloud, supporting compute-intensive artificial intelligence applications without proprietary hardware requirements.
Dr. Ferri Abolhassan added: “The platform automates many background processes, already delivers 80 percent of the familiar core hyperscaler features and significantly reduces IT administration effort. By the end of 2026, we will reach full core feature parity.”
Security and compliance are central elements of T Cloud Public’s design. The platform adheres to strict European data protection standards and operates within certified German data centers using zero trust architecture principles. Dr. Christine Knackfuss (Chief Sovereignty Office and member of the board at T-Systems) commented: “We continuously challenge our own level of sovereignty, using our telecommunication industry regulations as a key benchmark, and are exploring ways to become even more independent.”
With over 4,000 enterprise clients—including DAX-listed corporations—medium-sized businesses and public sector organizations already use T Cloud Public services. The upcoming expansion aims to make it the first fully European alternative in the global hyperscaler market.
T Cloud Public also addresses vendor lock-in issues by promoting open standards and providing migration support for organizations seeking independence from non-European providers. Its high certification density makes it particularly suitable for regulated industries such as finance and public administration.
