Delta Air Lines has announced a firm order for 31 additional Airbus widebody aircraft, comprising 16 A330-900s and 15 A350-900s. This new order will bring Delta’s total fleet to 55 A330neo and 79 A350 aircraft once deliveries are complete.

Ed Bastian, Chief Executive Officer of Delta Air Lines, commented on the deal: “As we grow our international footprint and prepare our fleet to serve expanded long-haul markets, these aircraft will enhance our capabilities and elevate our premium offerings. We value our long-standing partnership with Airbus, and with these widebody aircraft we will see additional operational efficiencies and long-term cost benefits in the years to come.”

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business, said: “Delta’s renewed confidence in both the A330neo and the A350 is a testament to our enduring partnership and the excellence of the Airbus widebody family performance. These aircraft offer the range, capacity, and premium cabin experience Delta requires to grow into new markets and connect more of the world.”

Delta currently operates over 500 Airbus aircraft across all product families from the A220 to the A350-900. The airline also has an outstanding order backlog with Airbus that includes around 200 aircraft such as the A350-1000.

The newly ordered A330neo jets are powered by Rolls-Royce Trent 7000 engines and can fly up to 8,100 nautical miles non-stop. They are designed to reduce fuel consumption, carbon dioxide emissions, and operating costs by about a quarter compared to older models. The A350 is described as one of the most modern widebody planes available today, capable of flying up to 9,700 nautical miles non-stop while offering similar efficiency improvements due to advanced technologies and lightweight materials.

Both models feature Airbus’ Airspace cabin design for enhanced passenger comfort. Additionally, they can operate using up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with plans for full SAF capability by 2030.

By December 2025, Airbus had received more than 1,500 orders for its A350 Family from 67 customers worldwide. The company’s A330 Family had secured over 1,900 orders globally.
