Two years after its launch, the CampX Incubator program in Gothenburg, Sweden, has been renamed to Venture Access. This change aims to better reflect the value provided by the program and clarify its purpose within the broader innovation ecosystem.

The term ‘Incubator’ is often linked with early-stage entrepreneurs needing foundational guidance. However, this does not align with the maturity level and type of collaboration that CampX by Volvo Group focuses on. The newly named Venture Access program offers startups deep industry access and fosters close collaboration with industry peers. It facilitates sharing expertise and insights while supporting startups in validating their customer assumptions quickly.

Startups participating in the program have expressed that ‘Incubator’ did not capture their experience accurately. They emphasized that what they received extended beyond office space or basic guidance on sales, funding, or marketing.

Renaming to Venture Access aligns it more closely with other CampX programs—Venture Client and Venture Builder—creating a cohesive identity. The word ‘Access’ was chosen to highlight what startups gain: direct access to Volvo Group experts, real-world challenges, and a wider innovation ecosystem including venture capital firms, investors, academia, and strategic partners.

While startups are flexible in their operations—often working remotely or at various sites—the Venture Access program still offers them opportunities to collaborate with engineers and experts at the CampX site in Gothenburg. This flexibility allows for scaling the concept across all CampX hubs globally—even where dedicated startup spaces may be limited.

CampX by Volvo Group encompasses three engagement programs: Venture Access, Venture Client—which has over 170 Proof of Value projects—and Venture Builder which captures internal ideas for new revenue streams either internally or as spinouts.
